into Center of Gallery Most of the prints in the room were made in San Ygnacio, Texas where I lived for 11 years before moving to Galveston. During my time in San Ygnacio, I was not practicing medicine. Instead I built a second career as a printmaker and paper maker. During 8 of my years in San Ygnacio, I worked on refugee and Human Rights problems through involvement with Amnesty International USA. In Laredo, Texas, 30 miles from my home in San Ygnacio, there was a notorious Immigration and Naturalization Service Detention Facility deporting refugees fleeing the war in Central America, back to El Salvador and Guatemala. Many of my prints made in the 1980's relate to this. Click images on wall to see more. |
