Eric Avery was invited to participate both to display his art and to create something to honor Mike. In 2000, Mike wrote about Eric in Para-Sites: A Casebook Against Cynical Reason. For this Art Action, Eric made a lithograph of words he looked up while reading Mike’s recent books. He wrapped 100 dark chili chocolate truffles in the lithograph to be distributed and eaten during champagne toasts to Mike May 30 in the MIT art museum. The inspiration for this honorific edible art was this sheet of edible tiny roundels in squares, called Esszettel “slips of paper for eating”. It was shown to me by curator Suzanne Karr Schmidt and written about in her book Altered and Adorned: Using Renaissance Prints in Daily Life. |
